The National Museum Complex “Moldova” Iasi – Museum of History of Moldova organizes on Friday, June 18, 2021, starting with 11.00, in the Hall “Stefan Procopiu” at the Palace of Culture, the press conference dedicated to the project “Underground Iasi – Rediscovered Histories”, funded by the EEA Grants 2014-2021 under the program RO-CULTURE call Supporting innovative exhibitions with restored movable cultural property.
Developed in partnership with Fornleifastofnun Islands (Institute of Archeology of Iceland), based in Reykjavik, the general objective of the project was to promote / capitalize on objects discovered following archaeological excavations in Iasi, by organizing an interactive exhibition open to the public on January 12 – June 30, 2021, in the premises of the Museum of History of Moldova, from the Palace of Culture in Iasi.
The total value of the project is 617,288.12 Ron (129,083.06 euros).
The conference is the right time to look back on this project, which highlighted a series of discoveries that illustrate the life of the aristocracy and craftsmen who lived their lives not far from the Royal Court of Iasi, and to share with all those interested, experiences, joys, but also difficulties, such as those caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, and the concrete ways applied to meet all the proposed objectives.
During the exhibition, a number of over 10,000 visitors was registered, practically double the initial estimate. In addition, a series of mini-conferences were organized, held by archaeologists Stela Cheptea, Bobi Apăvăloaie, Costică Asăvoaie, Cătălin Hriban, Adriana Miron, Tamilia Marin and Cosmin Niță, broadcast online at an interval of approximately 3 weeks, guided tours were organized and workshops for the detailed communication of the exhibition message. Also within the project, an interactive workshop was organized, conducted online due to the pandemic context, through which the Icelandic partner contributed to the training of at least 13 specialists from the promoting institution.
The public access to the press conference is allowed, within the limits imposed by the sanitary norms in force at the date of the event. The press conference will be broadcast live on the project’s Facebook page, @Underground Iași – Rediscovered histories.

The EEA grants represent the contribution of Iceland, the Principality of Liechtenstein and the Kingdom of Norway to reducing economic and social disparities in the European Economic Area and to strengthening bilateral relations with the 15 beneficiary states in Eastern and Southern Europe and the Baltic States.
These funding mechanisms are established on the basis of the Agreement on the European Economic Area, which brings together EU Member States and Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway as equal partners in the internal market.
In total, the three states contributed € 3.3 billion between 1994 and 2014 and € 1.55 billion for
funding period 2014-2021.

The RO-CULTURE program is implemented by the Ministry of Culture through the Project Management Unit and has as general objective the consolidation of economic and social development through cultural cooperation, cultural entrepreneurship and cultural heritage management.
The budget of the Program is approximately 34 million euros.
